The red grape variety originates from Germany. Synonyms are Blauer Tokayer, Gouais Noir, Hohmann 21/23/24/96, Rothhinsch, Rothhinsche, Schwarzer Heinisch, Schwarzheunsch, Schwarzhynsch, Tokayer Blau and Tokay Blue.

According to DNA analyses carried out in 2016, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Süßschwarz x Weißer Heunisch (Gouais Blanc). Black Heunisch is also a synonym for the independent varieties Blue Heunisch and Somszoeloe Kék (25 DNA markers) - both without a genetic Heunisch relationship.
It is a purely female grape variety, which is why it is dependent on cross-fertilisation. See a list of all varieties in the large Heunisch group under Gouais Blanc (White Heunisch).

In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
