Schuller Josef

The Austrian wine expert and wine educator Dr Josef Schuller (born 1959) studied commercial science in Vienna. He has worked as a researcher, including at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa. As a Fulbright Scholar, he spent time in the USA for research purposes and subsequently worked as a consultant in international wine marketing, including at the Mondavi winery in California.

Wine Academy Austria

In 1991, Schuller founded the Austrian Wine Academy in Rust on Lake Neusiedl (Burgenland), which he runs, and is one of the leading figures in international wine education in German-speaking countries. In this context, he is also known as the "chief educator of the Austrian wine nation". Under his leadership, the Austrian Wine Academy developed into one of the most important training centres for wine in the world. After 36 years at the helm, Josef Schuller handed over the management of the Wine Academy to Christian Zechmeister in 2026.
