Schoene Renate

Renate Schoene (1945-2013), a German graduate librarian and library officer, created the extensive bibliography on the history and culture of wine from 1971 onwards. The basis for its realisation was a cooperation between the Society for the History of Wine and the University Library of Bonn, where Renate Schoene was employed. She was supported by Dr. Wolfgang Thomann with regard to data technology. After her retirement in 2005 the bibliography became her main occupation. The last title she recorded was no. 29.857. Four days before her death, Schoene wrote many library articles in addition to the wine bibliography. In 2010 she was awarded the Professor Niklas Medal in Silver for her merits in the field of agricultural research. See also under literature.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
