The "Wein- und Obsthof Schneider" is located in the municipality of Großriedenthal in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Wagram. It is run by Franz and Gabriela Schneider. Viticulture is practised on six hectares of vineyards. Together with a partner, table grapes are produced from an additional eight hectares. On the main farm, 60% of the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Chardonnay, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc and Roter Veltliner, and 40% of the red wine varieties Zweigelt, Blauburger, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Roesler are cultivated. The vineyards are cultivated according to the rules of organic viticulture. The aim is to produce wines with a fruity character that are typical of the location and region. The majority of the wines are therefore matured in stainless steel tanks, with only the premium red wines maturing in barriques. The top wines include, for example, Grüner Veltliner Spielberg and Blauer Zweigelt Select. Ice wine is also produced in years with favourable weather conditions.
In the past, you needed a wealth of encyclopaedias and specialist literature to keep up to date in your vinophile professional life. Today, Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one of my best helpers and can rightly be called the "bible of wine knowledge".
