Schmitts Kinder

The winery is located in the municipality of Randersacker (Maindreieck area) in the German wine-growing region of Franconia. The name goes back to a community of heirs around 1910. After the death of the owners at the time, their children and heirs did not divide up the vineyard, contrary to the usual "Franconian real division". Instead, the vineyards were cultivated together and the wines were marketed jointly under the name "Schmitt's Kinder". Today's owner Karl Martin Schmitt is considered one of the quality pioneers in Franconia. After studying viticulture in Geisenheim and working abroad, his son Martin Johannes joined the business.

The vineyards cover 14 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyards Pfülben, Marsberg, Sonnenstuhl and Teufelskeller. They are planted with the varieties Silvaner, Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Riesling, Domina, Pinot Noir, Pinot Blanc, Scheurebe and Rieslaner. Traditional oak barrels and stainless steel tanks are used for vinification and storage. Small batches of selected white and red wines are aged in barriques. For the high-class wines, special emphasis is placed on the clear expression of the origin (terroir). For the simpler wines, no indication of the vineyard is given. The majority of the Bocksbeutel bottles are sealed with screw caps. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. The winery is a member of the VDP (Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates) and one of the five Franconian TRIAS wineries.
