Schilling Herbert

The winery is located in Strebersdorf (part of the 21st district of Floridsdorf) in the northwest of Vienna (Austria). A Heuriger is affiliated. The winery is managed by Dipl. Ing. Herbert Schilling and his wife Ingeborg. The vineyards comprise eight hectares of vineyards on the south side of the Bisamberg in the Gernen and Jungenberg vineyards. They are planted to 60% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Welschriesling, Gelber Muskateller, Bouvier and Traminer, and 40% with the red wine varieties St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot

The near-natural, beneficial-animal-friendly cultivation is carried out in accordance with the guidelines of integrated plant protection. This includes soil care with grass mulch and green manure, as well as dispensing with herbicides and mineral fertilizers. Quality-enhancing measures are varietal pruning, consistent leaf care and thinning out. Only ripe and healthy grapes are processed by selective hand harvesting

The wines are vinified after controlled, chilled fermentation in a manner typical of the region and variety. The premium wines include the red wine cuvée "Camilla" (St. Laurent, Blaufränkisch), Wiener Grüner Veltliner, Wiener Gemischter Satz DAC and the sparkling wine "Vienna Classic Brut" (Welschriesling, Veltliner, Riesling), which is aged in French barriques made of Allier oak. In years with suitable weather conditions, ice wines are also pressed. About 15,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. The winery is a member of the Vienna Classic Association, whose chairman since 2007 has been Herbert Schilling.
