Schenkenberg

single vineyard in the municipality of Esslingen (Remstal-Stuttgart area) in the German wine-growing region of Württemberg. The terraced vineyards facing west-south-west to south-south-east with a slope of 25 to 70% cover 81 hectares of vineyards, some of which extend as far as the old town centre. The site is divided by a rock band. The soils consist of sandstone with calcareous coloured marl with clayey tuberous marl in the upper area. The upper area has good water retention capacity. The main varieties grown here are Riesling, Trollinger, Lemberger, Pinot Noir and Merlot. The Kusterer vineyard, for example, has a share in the site.
