The family business is located in the municipality of Andau in the Burgenland wine-growing region of Neusiedlersee (Austria). It was founded in 1986 by Johann Scheiblhofer (Big John), who converted the business to viticulture as his main occupation. Since 2000, Erich Scheiblhofer, master winemaker and state-certified wine manager, has been fully employed at the winery after gaining practical experience in Australia and California. The "Hall of Legends" of the Scheiblhofer Winery not only functions as a barrique hall, but also serves as an exclusive event hall for business events and company celebrations with a huge sound and lighting system. There are also guest rooms available for rent. At the Andreasberg in Andau there is an officially classified mountain vineyard as well as a wine educational trail with all Austrian grape varieties. A lookout tower offers views of the Schneeberg and deep into Hungary.
The own vineyards cover a total of 75 hectares. However, grapes from the Burgenland wine-growing regions of Leithaberg, Mittelburgenland and Neusiedlersee are also processed, for example in the municipalities and Rieden Andau (Prädium), Breitenbrunn (Rosenberg), Großhöflein (Point), Halbturn (Kaiserberg), Horitschon (Dürrau), Jois (Jungenberg), Kleinhöflein (Tatschler), Mönchhof (Satz), Neckenmarkt (Hussy), Pamhagen (Lerchenfeld), Rust (Alter Umriss), St. Georgen (Krainer), Tadten (Oberzick) and Winden(Altenberg). They are stocked 75% with the red wine varieties Zweigelt, St. Laurent, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz(Syrah), and 25% with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Welschriesling, Chardonnay, Bouvier, Sauvignon Blanc, Muscat Ottonel, Gelber Muskateller and Traminer. Great importance is attached to sustainability; the entire energy self-sufficient production is carried out according to certified rules of Nachhaltig Austria. The use of glyphosate is voluntarily avoided. The yields are strictly limited.
The wines are produced in all quality and predicate levels up to (in years suitable for the weather) the Beerenauslese. Most of the white wines are matured in stainless steel tanks, but some are also aged in barriques. The red wines undergo a malolactic fermentation and then mature in French Allier or American oak barriques. The maturing time of the high qualities is about 18 months. After bottling, the wines are individually stored at the optimal temperature. Among the premium wines are the red wine cuvées "Big John" (60% Zweigelt, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Pinot Noir) and "The Legends" (Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot). Frizzante and chocolate are also produced.
