The winery is located in the free city of Rust in Burgenland (Austria). It has been in family ownership since 1741. Paul and his sister Barbara Schandl run the winery and the adjoining Buschenschank. The vineyards cover 16 hectares of vineyard area. One third of them are planted with the red varieties Blaufränkisch, Blauburgunder, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, and two thirds with the white varieties Weißburgunder, Riesling, Grauburgunder, Sauvignon Blanc, Neuburger, Furmint, Gelber Muskateller and Welschriesling. The emphasis is on fruit-laden, varietal, dry, matured quality wines, as well as Prädikat wines. Among the premium wines are Pinot Noir Ritter, Chardonnay Ried Gertberg, the red wine Cuvée Cabernet (Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot), as well as three to four times per decade the local speciality Ruster Ausbruch. Around 60,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Fine brandies (wine, Trseter) and bottle-fermented sparkling wine are also produced. The winery is a member of the association Cercle Ruster Ausbruch.
