The winery is located in the municipality of Endingen (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. It was founded in 1970 by Leopold and Margarete Schätzle with one hectare of vineyards. Today, their two children Leopold jun. and Cäcilia are also active in the business. A holiday home is attached. The inscription on the family coat of arms "Ex amore et sole vinum" (From love and sun becomes wine) vividly describes the philosophy of the family business. The vineyards cover 15 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyards Steingrube in sole ownership and Engelsberg (Endingen), Bassgeige (Oberbergen), Sommerhalde (Bombach), as well as Hummelberg (Kenzingen). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe and Gewürztraminer, and about 50% with Pinot Noir. In suitable years, an ice wine is also produced.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
