The winery is located in the municipality of Vogtsburg-Schelingen (Kaiserstuhl area) in the German wine-growing region of Baden. The Schätzle family has been cultivating the winegrowing tradition in the centre of the Kaiserstuhl since the 18th century. Since 1994, the winery has been run by Thomas and his wife Friederike Schätzle. Since 2013, daughter Franziska Schätzle (educated as Dipl. Ing. Weinbau & Oenologie in Geisenheim and the Université de Dijon with professional stations in Burgundy, Bordeaux, Spain and New Zealand) has been working in the business. The vineyards cover 13 hectares in the single vineyard sites Bassgeige (Oberbergen), Kirchberg (Schelingen) and Steinhalde (Amoltern).
