Scarecrow

In the vineyard used defence against harmful birds in the form of old clothes and fluttering ribbons adapted straw dolls. The effect is rather low and should be combined with acoustic methods. Another, more effective form is the scarecrow modelled on a bird of prey. This arouses the fear instinct of birds against birds of prey. The most effective form is the so-called kite scarecrow. A kite, also modelled on a bird of prey, sits at the end of a telescopic rod over ten metres high. Such devices are also available in the form of a balloon filled with helium gas on a correspondingly long string. A special form is the wind-powered klapotetz, which produces a rattling (Slav. klaptati = rattling) sound as well as ultrasonic sounds. Scarecrows are used in the context of organic or integrated pest management. See also organic viticulture.
