The winery is located near Cape Town above the Kuils River in the South African winegrowing district of Stellenbosch(Coastal Region). From the exposed location high in the hills you can enjoy a view of Cape Town and False Bay. Its origins date back to 1693, when the then Governor Simon van der Stel (1639-1712) transferred land to the citizen Joachim Sax Land. After an eventful history and several changes of ownership it was bought by the Swiss Adrian and Birgit Bührer in 1989. They also own the Château Capion near Montpellier in the French Languedoc. Since 1991, the responsible cellar master is Nico van der Merwe, who studied for two years at the State Viniculture School in Weinsberg (Württemberg). In the same year he was awarded the title of "South African Winemaker 1991".
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
