The appellation, named after the municipality of the same name (Engl. "Savigny near Beaune"), with around 350 hectares of vineyards, is located in the Côte de Beaune part of the Côte d'Or in Burgundy. On an engraving from 1703, the wines are apostrophized as being "nutritious, theological and disease-repelling". Of the more than 20 Premiers Crus with a total of 212 hectares of vineyards, the most important are La Dominode, Aux Guettes, Les Lavières, Les Marconetts, Les Narbantons, Les Peuillets, Les Rouvrettes and Aux Vergelesses. These are marketed under the AC Savigny-lès-Beaune Premier Cru. 90% of the wines produced are long-lasting red wines made from Pinot Noir with shares of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault. Alternatively, AC Savigny-Côte de Beaune may also be used. The white wines are produced from Chardonnay with shares of Pinot Blanc. Well known producers are Simon Bize, Bouchard Père et Fils, Domaine Chandon de Briailles, Camus-Brochon, Bruno Clair, Domaine Maurice Ecard, Domaine Jean-Jacques Girard, Louis Jadot, Domaine Leroy, Domaine Jean Marc Pavelot and Domaine Tollot-Beaut.
