Sand meadow

The winery is located in the municipality of Worms-Herrnsheim (Wonnegau area) in the German Rheinhessen wine region, but there are also vineyards in the Palatinate. In 1999, the winery moved into a newly built building and was named after its new location. A hotel and a restaurant are attached. The estate is managed in the third family generation by Daniel and Eva-Maria Schäfer, supported by the parents Bertold and Marianne Schäfer. The vineyards cover 30 hectares of vineyards in the Rheinhessen vineyards Nonnenwingert (Worms) and Schloss (Herrnsheim), as well as in the Palatinate vineyard Reiterpfad (Ruppertsberg). They are planted with the red wine varieties Spätburgunder, Dornfelder, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Dorsa, Blauer Portugieser, Merlot and Schwarzriesling, and with the white wine varieties Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Silvaner, Gewürztraminer, Gelber Muskateller, Müller-Thurgau, Scheurebe, Ortega, Huxelrebe and Siegerrebe

Quality-enhancing measures in the vineyard are defoliation of the grape zone and selective harvesting with the aim of fully ripe and healthy grapes. The white wines are fermented in a cool, aroma-conserving manner, the red wines undergo the classic maceration process. Depending on the type of wine, the ageing takes place in steel tanks or in barriques. The wines are marketed in three lines. These are the top line "Fels" with wines from the above-mentioned best sites, the line "Stein" with wines from selected grapes, and the base line "Sand". The premium wines include the "Sandspiel" red wine cuvée aged in barriques and the "Sauvignon Blanc" white wine. In years with suitable weather conditions, noble sweet specialities are also pressed. Furthermore, bottle-fermented sparkling wines, noble brandies (wine, fruit), wine jelly, cherry wine and grape juice are also produced.
