The white grape variety originates from France. Synonyms are Sainte-Marie de Biviers and Saint Marie. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2013, it originates from a presumably natural cross between Gouais Blanc x Chasselas. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). Incidentally, the Plant de Séchex and Plant de Vincelles varieties also originated from the same parents. The variety is cultivated in Gascony. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
