The small appellation is located in the very south of the large French area Entre-deux-Mers(Bordeaux) as an enclave within the appellation Premières Côtes de Bordeaux. The vineyards cover 460 hectares of vines on limestone soils on the right bank rive dro ite of the Garonne. The appellation applies to sweet white wines made from noble sweet grapes of the Sémillon, Sauvignon Blanc and Muscadelle varieties. The red wines are produced as simple appellation Bordeaux. Well-known wineries include Château Bel Air, Château du Mont, Château La Grave, Château La Rame and Château Lousteau-Vieil. To the north of Sainte-Croix-du-Mont borders the Loupiac appellation with very similar wines.
