The appellation, named after the village of the same name, has 83 hectares of vineyards and is located in the Côte de Beaune part of the Burgundy Côte d'Or. There are no Grands Crus or Premiers Crus. White wines (from Chardonnay with a proportion of Pinot Blanc) and red wines (from Pinot Noir with a proportion of Pinot Gris and Pinot Liébault) are produced in roughly equal parts. An alternative AOC exclusively for red wines is Saint-Romain-Côte de Beaune.
