Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues

Independent municipal area in the Département Drôme in the southern French appellation Côtes du Rhône-Villages (see AOC regulations there). Since 1966, the commune has been allowed to use the name on the label in addition to its own, although this applies to red, rosé and white wines. Wine-growing goes back to the Romans, and excavations have revealed amphorae, coins and statues. The vineyards cover 140 hectares of vineyards on calcareous and clayey soils. Well-known producers are Coopérative Vignerons des Coteaux Saint-Maurice and Domaine de Deurre.

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
