The white grape variety is a new breed between Riesling x Bukettrebe. Synonyms include Alzey S. 88, Dr. Wagnerrebe, Scheu 88, S-88, Scheu Riesling and (used in Austria) Seedling 88. It was created in 1916 by the German breeder Justus Georg Scheu (1879-1949) in Alzey. Even experts can be wrong, as Scheu claimed in a lecture in 1935 that the Bukettrebe had not proven itself as a crossing partner.
