By far the largest wine-growing region in the US state of California, stretching from north to south for more than half of the state over a distance of more than 600 kilometres. Occasionally it is also called Inland Valleys or Delta & Inland. To the west are the two regions Central Coast and North Coast, and in the eastern center is the Sierra Foothills region. The vast Central Valley covers a total of 220,000 hectares of vineyards. Of these, 140,000 hectares are planted with wine grapes and 80,000 hectares are used for the production of table grapes and raisins, which are important in California. It also produces the base wines for over 90% of California's spirits. The Central Valley is one of the most productive agricultural regions in the world.
