The winegrowers' association was founded in 1992 in the Carnuntum winegrowing region of Lower Austria. The aim of the association is to promote and raise the profile of the typical regional red wine "Rubin Carnuntum". This brand is intended to give the region a recognisable and recognisable identity and at the same time offer the numerous smaller wineries an opportunity to make their red wine known in a higher segment of the market. The association is made up of 35 wineries that are committed to adhering to common production and quality standards.

Rubin Carnuntum must be made from a single variety of Zweigelt. The style has changed over the years. The rubies are more elegant, less powerful and usually with less wood than in the early years. The wines must achieve a 2/3 majority in the tasting by a jury of experts and may only be marketed from 1 August. Standardised back labels (3-line or ruby label and mandatory 5-line label in German and English) are mandatory. Long capsules in red or black are also required. Natural corks with Carnuntum cork branding or screw caps are permitted as closures, while short screw caps and crown corks are excluded.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
