The white grape variety originates from Austria. Synonyms are Cinyfal Cerveny, Cirfandler, Piros Cirfandli, Rifai Piros, Roter Zierfandler, Rother Österreicher, Silvani Piros, Sylvain Rouge and Sylvánské Cervene. It is a mutation with red berries of the white Silvaner variety. It should not be confused with Blauer Silvaner. The variety is mainly grown in the German wine-growing region of Franconia, as well as in Baden, Rheinhessen, Saale-Unstrut and Württemberg. In 2016, a total of 25 hectares of vineyards were designated in Germany (Kym Anderson statistics).
