The white grape variety originates from Italy. Synonyms are Greco di Velletri, Greco Giallo, Greco Verde, Roscetto, Rossetta and Rossetti. It must not be confused with the varieties Greco, Greco Bianco or the variety Trebbiano Gi allo, which is considered identical in some DOC regulations and also in the VIVC catalogue (Geilweilerhof), despite seemingly indicating synonyms or morphological similarities. Rossetto, however, is also a synonym for the red grape variety Grignolino.
The low-yielding vine is resistant to fungal diseases. Due to the colourful reddish berries, it yields slightly reddish white wines with a citrus aroma. The variety is cultivated in the two regions of Lazio and Umbria. It was threatened with extinction in the 1960s and was reactivated by some winegrowers. Rossetto is mostly blended with the varieties Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Bianca Lunga. It is present in the DOC wines Colli Etruschi Viterbesi and Est! Est!!! Est!!! di Montefiascone approved. In 2016, however, no stocks were reported under the name Rossetto. Presumably the quantities are included under Trebbiano Giallo (Kym Anderson statistics).
