The white grape variety (also Freiburg 991-60) is a new breeding between Seyve-Villard 12-375 (Villard Blanc) x Siegerrebe. It contains genes from Vitis berlandieri, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1960 by Dr. Johannes Zimmermann (1907-1998) at the State Viticultural Institute in Freiburg (Baden-Württemberg). The medium to late ripening vine is mainly used as a table grape and ornamental vine. Surprisingly, however, it is said to be used as a wine grape in the US state of Iowa. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
The Wine lexicon helps me to keep up to date and refresh my knowledge. Thank you for this Lexicon that will never end in terms of topicality! That's what makes it so exciting to come back often.
