Rosebush

At the edge of vineyards or at the end of each Rebzeile, rose bushes are often planted. They serve as "guards" or indicator plants, as they are affected by Mehltau (both true and false) earlier than the Rebstock, thus informing the Winzer in time for preventive measures against the infestation. Additionally, the rose bushes provide shelter for Nützlinge. This practice is common in the French region Graves and in many other countries, although the actual effectiveness of this early warning system is not undisputed.

Rose bush - in the vineyard

True mildew (Oidium) primarily affects Rosenton, phlox, and other ornamental plants. False mildew (Peronospora) often infests peas, cabbage, radishes, radish, black salsify, spinach, onions, and Weinrebe. Reddish Verfärbung on the Blatt indicate false mildew; true mildew also leads to white spots. By the way, the grapevine Taxonomie belongs to the subclass of Rosidae (rose plants).
