The white grape variety is an interspecific new breeding between Elvira x Triumph (1). It was named after the US grape breeder Jakob Rommel, who selected the mother variety. It contains genes from Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in 1885 in the USA by Thomas Volney Munson (1843-1913). It was a crossing partner in the new variety Estella. No stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson).

The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
