The Grand Cru vineyard is located in the municipality of Vosne-Romanée in the Côte d'Or area below the Grand Cru vineyard La Romanée(Burgundy). It is the sole property (monopole) of the Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. The relatively flat vineyard comprises just under two hectares of vines with a 3% slope at an altitude of 260-280 metres above sea level on clay-limestone rendzina soil with a high clay content and limestone scree. The vineyard was replanted in 1945, using vines from the Grand Cru site La Tâche as a base. Up to this point, the vines in both sites were ungrafted and were combated against phylloxera using the so-called cultural method with carbon disulphide.
