Rio Grande

The white grape variety is a new variety between Diagalves x Fernão Pires. It was crossed in Portugal in 1951 by the breeder Leão Ferreira. The variety is grown in small quantities on the Azores island of Pico and Madeira and is used in blending. With the same parents, the new breed Seara Nova was created. In 2016, half a hectare of vineyard was planted (Kym Anderson statistics).
