Rigotti Rebo

The Italian agronomist and botanist Rebo Rigotti (1891-1978) was born in the Valle dei Laghi in the province of Trento (Trentino-Alto Adige) as the son of the wealthy winegrower Pietro Rigotti, who supplied his Vino Santo to the Imperial Court in Vienna. At that time, the province still belonged to Austria. From 1907 to 1909, he attended the agricultural school in San Michele, where his teachers included Prof Karl Mader (1847-1914), Prof Josef Schindler and Osvaldo Orsi. He worked in the family business until the end of the First World War (1914-1918).

Joining San Michele

In the early 1920s, he was hired by the San Michele experimental station as "inspector of the Venezia Tridentina cellars". From 1923 to 1928, he worked at Countess Giuliana Martini's winery in Mezzocorona and also graduated as an expert at the agricultural school in Conegliano in Veneto. He then worked as an assistant at the Phytopathological Observatory of Trento until 1930 and won the competition for the post of technical director of the Navicello viticulture and fruit-growing schools in Rovereto and Trento.
