Riesus

The white grape variety is an interspecific new variety between Riesling x Roucaneuf. Synonyms are Risus, Risys and Rysus. It contains genes of Vitis berlandieri, Vitis labrusca, Vitis lincecumii, Vitis rupestris and Vitis vinifera. The hybrid was crossed in Ukraine by the breeders P. Golodriga, M Kostik and V. Yurchenko. The medium to late-maturing, high-yielding vine is resistant to frost to minus 26 °Celsius and fungal diseases. It produces riesling like white wines, which are also used for distillation. The variety is cultivated in Russia in the Rostov and Krasnodar regions. In 2016, 115 hectares of vineyard area were designated (statistics Kym Anderson).
