Riesling Statute

In 1997, the members of the VDP-Nahe decided to offer only Riesling wines from the best vineyards with site designation from the 1997 vintage onwards. The other Rieslings from the respective VDP vineyards were marketed without a site designation, but instead as local wines or estate wines. The same applied to all other grape varieties, even from top sites. Furthermore, the respective top sites were defined. The criteria in detail were: 100% grapes from classified sites, 100% Riesling, manual harvest, basic yield 48 hectolitres per hectare, higher maturity for each quality level, recognition through blind tasting, marketing from April of the following year. Subsequently, the Riesling statute was incorporated into the VDP classification model.
