DOC area for red wines, rosé wines and white wines in the Italian region of Sicily. The zone's vineyards cover 36 hectares of vines in the two municipalities of Butera, Mazzarino and Riesi in the province of Caltanisetta. The Rosso (also known as Novello) is produced from Calabrese (Nero d'Avola) and/or Cabernet Sauvignon (to. 80%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 20%). The wine types Rosso Superiore and Rosso Superiore Riserva must contain at least 85% Calabrese. Rosato is made from Calabrese (50-75%) and Nerello Mascalese and/or Cabernet Sauvignon (25-50%). Bianco (also known as Spumante and Vendemmia tardiva) is made from Ansonica (Inzolia) and/or Chardonnay (max. 75%), as well as other authorised varieties (max. 15%). The single-varietal wines must contain 85% of the respective variety. The two white wines are Chardonnay and Insolia. The four red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Nero d'Avola and Syrah.
For me, Lexicon from wein.plus is the most comprehensive and best source of information about wine currently available.
