The winery is located in the municipality of Meißen in the German wine-growing region of Saxony. The family business was founded in 1873 by Vincenz Anton Richter. Today it is run by Thomas Herrlich, the fourth generation. The vineyards cover eight hectares of vines in the single vineyard sites Kapitelberg (Meißen) and Gellertberg (Weinböhla). Almost 90% of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (50%), Müller-Thurgau, Bacchus, Kerner, Scheurebe, Traminer, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Gris, the rest with the red wine varieties Pinot Noir and Cabernet Dorsa. Environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. The yield is strictly limited. The wines are marketed as site wines (Rieslings from the Kapitelberg) and estate wines. In suitable years, an ice wine is also produced. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced.
