Rhode Island

The state with the capital Providence is located in the northeast of North America on the Atlantic coast and was one of the 13 founding states of the USA. The AVA Southeastern New England is shared with the two states Connecticut and Massachusetts. Viticulture is almost exclusively done in Newport County, it is similar to the other states in New England. Hybrids such as Cayuga White, Chancellor, Seyval Blanc and Vidal Blanc are cultivated, but increasingly European varieties such as Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Chenin Blanc, Colombard, Merlot, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Noir and Riesling are being grown. Typical for the New English states, many fruit wines (from apples and berries) are also produced. The main production plants are Diamond Hill Vineyard, Greenvale Vineyards, Kingston Vineyards, Newport Vineyards & Winery, Prudence Island Vineyard, Sakonnet Vineyards.
