A region in the south-west of Germany covering almost 20,000 square kilometres, which was created in 1946 through the unification of the southern part of the Prussian Rhine Province, the Bavarian administrative district of Palatinate and western parts of Hesse. A total of six of the 13 German wine-growing regions are located here: Ahr, Middle Rhine, Moselle, Nahe, Palatinate and Rheinhessen. Most of the vineyards are located on the slopes of the Ahr, Lahn, Moselle, Nahe, Rhine, Ruwer and Saar rivers, which favour viticulture, as well as their tributaries.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
