The winery is located in the municipality of Zöbing in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region Kamptal at the foot of the Zöbinger Heiligenstein. It has been in family ownership since the 1950s and is managed by Erwin and Paul Retzl. The mostly terraced vineyards comprise almost 20 hectares of vineyards in and around Zöbing. The most important sites include Heiligenstein, Kogelberg, Pfaffenberg and Lamm. 80% of the vineyards are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Welschriesling, Traminer and Müller-Thurgau, and 20% with the red wine variety Zweigelt.
The cellar is laid out on three levels, so pumping is avoided. After the juice extraction, the mash is individually adapted to the grape material and pressed very gently. The wines mature exclusively in stainless steel tanks in the approximately 400-year-old brick vault of the wine cellar. The premium wines include various Rieslings and Grüner Veltliner with vineyard names. The cellar stores wines dating back to 1903, which are only opened on special occasions.
