Producer description of "Respiz-Hof Kölbl"

The winery is located in the municipality of Röschitz in the Lower Austrian wine-growing region of Weinviertel. The traditional family has been growing wine here since 1660. The estate was taken over by Johannes and Margit Kölbl in 1998. Röschitz was already mentioned in 1198 under the name "Respiz" (Rebspitz), the name of the winery is intended to document the connection with the village. The vineyards cover 14 hectares of vines in the Galgenberg, Hiatahoad, Himmelreich, Hundspoint, Kirchgraben, Königsberg and Reipersberg vineyards on the foothills of the Manhartsberg.

They are planted with the white wine varieties Grüner Veltliner, Riesling,Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay, Neuburger, Muskateller and Sauvignon Blanc as well as the red wine variety Zweigelt. Natural viticulture is practised. Quality criteria in the vineyard are yield-limited pruning, intensive foliage care, cover crop and selective hand-picking of physiologically ripe grapes. After controlled fermentation, most of the wines are matured in stainless steel tanks. The premium wines include the various Weinviertel DAC (Grüner Veltliner) and Riesling vom Urgestein. Fine brandies (fruit, wine), frizzante, wine jelly and verjus are also produced. The winery is a member of the Retzer Land Wine growers' Association.
