The winery is located in the municipality of Kanzem (Saar area) in the German wine-growing region of Mosel. It was founded in 1813 by Johann Peter Reinert. Subsequently, there were four more generations with exactly the same name, so that today the winery is run by Johann Peter Reinert, already in the fifth generation. The vineyards cover 4.2 hectares of vineyards in the single vineyard sites Kupp (Ayl), Steinberger and Urbelt (Filzen), Dullgärten (Igel), Altenberg and Sonnenberg (Kanzem), Ritterpfad (Wawern), as well as Braunfels, Klosterberg, Schlangengraben and Schlossberg (Wiltingen). They are planted with the white wine varieties Riesling (75%), Pinot Blanc, Müller-Thurgau and, as a special feature, some Elbling (Dullgärten), as well as the red wine variety Regent. Natural, environmentally friendly viticulture is consistently practised. Between the 2.60-metre-wide rows of vines, wild herbs that loosen the soil and fertilise it thrive, attracting beneficial insects such as the ladybird. The use of chemical sprays is reduced to a minimum. Gentle pressing is followed by cool, slow fermentation, aided by a spring flowing through the cellar. The wines are matured in stainless steel tanks according to their variety and their age. Bottling does not take place until May, with each bottle checked for any bits of cork in the wine. Bottle-fermented sparkling wines are also produced. The winery is a member of the Bernkasteler Ring.
