The red grape variety comes from Italy (Friuli). Synonyms are Mariabino, Refosco di Ronchis, Refosco Nostrano, Refoscone and Refosco Runcis. It is a member of the large Refosco group. Although it seems to have synonyms or morphological similarities, it should not be confused with the varieties Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso or Terrano. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2005, there is a parent-offspring relationship with the varieties Tazzelenghe and Refosco di Rauscedo. The varieties listed as synonyms and previously considered as independent are identical. The late ripening vine produces red wines with a higher acidity and tannin content than Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso.
