The white grape variety originates from Austria. Synonyms are Cinyfal Cerveny, Cirfandler, Piros Cirfandli, Rifai Piros, Roter Zierfandler, Rother Österreicher, Silvani Piros, Sylvain Rouge and Sylvánské Cervene. It is a somatic mutation with red berries of the white variety Silvaner. It must not be confused with the Blauer Silvaner variety. The variety is mainly cultivated in the German growing region of Franconia, as well as in Baden, Rheinhessen, Saale-Unstrut and Württemberg. In 2016, a total of 25 hectares of vineyards were designated in Germany (Kym Anderson statistics).
I have great respect for the scope and quality of the wein.plus encyclopaedia. It is a unique place to go for crisp, sound information on terms from the world of wine.
