Rechnitz

Largest wine-growing community in the Eisenberg wine-growing region of Burgenland on the southern slope of the Günser Mountains. The 884-metre Geschriebenstein is the highest elevation in Burgenland. The village was first mentioned in a document in 1260. At the entrance to the village you can admire the oldest Burgenland tree press dating back to 1677. The vineyards cover 70 hectares of vines on deep primary rock weathered soils with a clay-humus layer. Two thirds are planted with the white wine varieties Welschriesling, Grüner Veltliner, Pinot Blanc and Chardonnay, one third with the red wine varieties Blaufränkisch, Zweigelt and Pinot Noir. Since 1998, the brand wine "Naturparkwein Geschriebenstein" has been produced from the most important variety Welschriesling according to ecological criteria in a quantity of about 5,000 bottles. In this year, a signposted educational wine trail was also opened.

Serious sources on the internet are rare - and Wine lexicon from wein.plus is one such source. When researching for my articles, I regularly consult the wein.plus encyclopaedia. There I get reliable and detailed information.
