Recantina

The red grape variety originates from Italy. The parentage is unknown. It was mentioned in the 17th century under the names Recardina or Recandina as one of the best varieties in the province of Treviso in Veneto. In 2007, three varieties were identified by the Conegliano Wine Institute; these are Recantina a Pecolo Scuro (dark stem), Recantina a Pecolo Rosso (red stem) and Recantina Forner (after the vineyard where it was found). The latter yields a velvety red wine with black fruit aromas. It is not yet clear which of the three (or perhaps all) is the historical Recantina. In any case, one Recantina variety is permitted in the Montello e Colli Asolani DOC wine. In 2016, four hectares of vines were designated under this name in Veneto (Kym Anderson).
