Ravi Wine Chiller

The wine cooling system developed by the Canadian company Ravi is a bottle top in which the wine is passed through a longer spiral when poured, which passes through a block of ice inside the top. This cools the wine down to the optimal wine temperature. There are different types with different degrees of effectiveness. With the special "Instant White Wine Chiller" a white wine can be cooled down by 10 to 15 °Celsius. That means from room temperature with 22 to 8 °Celsius. The "Instant Red Wine Chiller" cools down from 22 to 16 °Celsius. According to the manufacturer, it can be served chilled for about 60 to 90 minutes, which seems to be sufficient to enjoy a bottle of 0.75 litres even when served in pairs. This makes champagne buckets or similar superfluous. Refreshing the appliance to freezing point is done in the freezer. Visually, the Ravi system resembles a spout for spirits. Some people fear that the very rapid cooling down will result in a loss of quality. The Rapid Ice system, which is based on cooling sleeves, requires a considerably longer time of up to 15 minutes.
