The white grape variety originates from Spain. Synonyms are Cagat, Masacamps, Massa Camps, Massacamps and Massecamp. According to DNA analyses carried out in 2018, it originates from a presumably natural cross between the leading variety Hebén x unknown partner. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see molecular genetics). The variety is grown in very small quantities in the Balearic Islands on the main island of Mallorca and is part of a vine reactivation programme. However, no stocks were reported in 2016 (Kym Anderson statistics).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
