Quercus

Generic name for oak. For the production of oak barrels or barriques and wood chips, the subgenera winter oak, holm oak or sessile oak (Quercus sessiliflora or Quercus petraea), and the summer oak or pedunculate oak (Quercus robur or Quercus pedunculata) are used. See under oak wood.
