Common name in China (葡萄酒, engl. grape alcohol, Jiǔ = alcohol) for a wine produced from grapes. However, since red wine is predominantly enjoyed in China, the term "Hóngjiǔ" (red alcohol) is also used as a synonym for wine, so to speak, regardless of the actual wine colour (i.e. also for white wine or rosé).
The glossary is a monumental achievement and one of the most important contributions to wine knowledge. Of all the encyclopaedias I use on the subject of wine, it is by far the most important. That was the case ten years ago and it hasn't changed since.
