A wine-based drink made from wine, fruit and sugar with the addition of sparkling wine or champagne or mineral water. The name comes from the 18th century and is derived from the English "bowl" in which the drink is prepared. Fruits such as pineapples, apples, strawberries, raspberries, cherries or peaches are mixed with sugar and a little wine, covered and left to infuse for about one to two hours. Then add the remaining liquid immediately before serving. The ideal drinking temperature is quite cool and lies between five and eight °Celsius. Punch-like drinks include Bischof, Feuerzangenbowle (served hot), Kalte Ente and Maiwein, in Spain Sangria, and in Argentina Clericó (Clericot). A drink quite similar to punch in terms of ingredients, but served hot, is punch.
