IGP area north of Avignon in the French wine region of Provence. It lies between the AOC areas Châteauneuf-du-Pape and Côtes du Rhône-Villages. The name means "Principality of Orange" and refers to the former principality located here. The area includes 36 communes in the department of Vaucluse. The name can be added to the département name in the form of Vaucluse Principauté d'Orange. 50 varieties of grape can be used, most of which are vinified as varietal wines.
