Prince's Grape

The red grape variety originates from Germany. The parentage Bicane x Trollinger (Schiava Grossa) was only clarified by DNA analyses carried out in 2013. However, this is based on only 20 DNA markers (see under molecular genetics). It remains open whether this is a deliberate cross (new breeding) or an open-pollinated seedling (product of chance). In any case, the vine was selected by the vineyard owner and breeder Johann Philipp Bronner (1792-1864). No stocks were recorded in 2016 (Kym Anderson).
